snow day

I had a snow day on Saturday.  There was a level three snow emergency in our county and instead of risking life and limb, or at the very least a ticket or being out on the roads, I decided to call my patients for the day and reschedule them.  Nobody seemed to mind all that much seeing as nobody really wanted to be out in the snow and ice that was all day Saturday.  So, I called it a snow day and spent some much needed time with my family.  Since I didn't get back from NYC until monday eveing and went straight back to work on Tuesday I was still missing them a bit.

Ben and I made pancakes for breakfast after I had called everyone.  He wanted heart shaped pancakes and so we made him some hearts.

After pancakes we spent an entire day watching toons, playing "troll under the bridge" and hide n' seek, and I even found time to read quite a bit of my current book I'm reading while Max napped on my lap.  It was a good day.

And the snow turned everything outside into a wonderland.

And in case you were wondering, this was taken today as we drove to lunch.  We didn't even leave the house yesterday.

the rest of the trip.

After getting back from NYC on Monday I was busy, busy, busy with work and family.  Had a great trip though.  Some much needed fun and relaxation with Mom and Hannah in a great city that I love more each time I visit.

Saturday

After arriving in Newark around 10:30 am I waited for the shuttle to Manhatten while enjoying my first cup of coffee after being awake since 5:00 am.  They finally arrived about 11:15 and then after taking another 20 minutes to pick up passengers (one other passenger) at the other terminals I was on my way.

Kinda.

We got stuck in traffic heading into the Holland Tunnel when an accident stopped traffic in both lanes altogether.  We sat without moving for about 45 minutes and then were on our way for real and I got to the hotel at around 1:00 pm. I was starving and ready to head out for pizza.

The three of us headed to Bleecker St. via Subway to Risotteria for gluten-free (to be mom friendly) pizza and beer.  It really was quite good.  Mom had a gluten-free crust with tomato sauce, fresh mozzerella, roasted peppers, onions and sausage.  My pizza had fresh mozzerella, roasted portabellos and white truffle oil.  Tasty stuff.  Mom got her gluten free beer (they had five to choose from) and then a freshly baked gluten-free black and white cookie for dessert.

After lunch we headed up broadway to Filene's Basement to do some shopping then back to the hotel to get ready for the theater.  We expected to come back and find our clothes back that we had sent to the concierge for pressing but instead found none of our dress clothing waiting for us.  It turns out that they had put our clothing in some other room. Of course, by the time they figured this out we had missed our 6 o'clock dinner reservation and had been comped dinner and a car to the theater by hotel managment.  I thought the manager was going to swallow his tongue with embarrassment.

So we quickly changed clothes and went out to see Mamma Mia! which was fantastic.  I'm really not much of an ABBA fan, but it really was good.  We took the subway back to the hotel and went to bed.  I was exhausted from being awake since 5 am.

Sunday

None of us woke up until ten!  I couldn't believe that I slept that late.  I can never sleep that late any more. So, we adjusted our plans to brunch before a matinee.  We headed to Alice's Teacup for brunch, the cutest little place that I went to with Kelly and Kara when we were in NYC for Kelly's thirtieth birthday.  Their scones really are a little bit of heaven.

After a fabulous breakfast we headed to 5th Ave. and 57th St. to do a little shopping.  Then we went to the MoMA gift shop (a really cool place to look for anything) then headed to Times Square for a 3 o'clock Wicked which was as good this time as the first time I saw it. So good.

We stopped in for some appetizers in Times Square before going to the Crowne Plaza to Brasserie 1605 for dinner.  This place was great.  Right on Times Square, second floor with windows to see the streets.  Great views and great food!

Monday

Not much going on.  Had a little breakfast then a little souvenir shopping before heading to the airport to go home.  I was ready to get back to Brad and the boys!  I had a really great time though and am now super excited again to take Brad to NYC hopefully sometime this Spring/Summer.  He's never been and I can't wait to show him the city.

If you are wondering where all the pictures are... I didn't take any.  Had my SLR with me and everything but decided to just enjoy the moment instead. I know... crazy:)

It was a great morning for air travel. On time, smooth and quick flights:)

We are going for gluten-free pizza and beer this afternoon. (Kelly- I'll give you an honest review so you and Ryan know whether to bother or not next time you are in the big apple.)

wings, coca-cola cake, and camera lenses.

For my birthday this past Thursday I took the day off of work.  This is the absolute best thing about working for me {smile}. I did as close to nothing as I could muster, which for me meant that I went for donuts with Brad and the boys, went grocery shopping, played with Ben, made lunch and changed an undetermined number of diapers.

My fantastic husband planned ahead for Mom, Dad, Jasper and the girls to come over Thursday night for dinner and cake.  Jasper made his delicious wings and Mom brought a coca-cola cake, which is a family tradition (and made gluten-free at my request so that she could also enjoy it.) Mom and Jasper came over around 2:30 pm and took Ben off on an adventure that I later discovered was buying me flowers and balloons for my birthday.  Of course Ben chose the balloons and I not surprisingly ended up with a Thomas one and a Pooh one.  After giving them to me he immediately asked if he could have the Thomas balloon and, of course, I said he could. (He is still having fun with that balloon.  He now has it tied to one of his cars and is dragging the car by the balloon string.)

So, we had yummy wings and cake then I opened this from everyone, which was exactly what I had asked for as a group gift. Although it was the only gift I got, it was well worth only having one package.  I have just started to play with it, but already LOVE it!
